BALDERAS CALLS ON CONGRESS TO PLAY BY THE SAME RULES

For Immediate Release: November 16, 2011

ALBUQUERQUE - Today, Hector Balderas released the following statement calling on Congress to implement safeguards that ensure lawmakers and Washington insiders are not profiting from proprietary information.

"Public servants are meant to act in the best interest of their constituents. Instead, we have a culture of greed and hypocrisy that has engulfed Washington. When Members of Congress and their staffs are buying stocks based on insider information, our leaders have lost their way. We know the dangers of allowing powerful interests to run rampant with no oversight and accountability. Washington is engaging in the same type of egregious practices that allowed Wall Street executives to line their pockets while taking our economy to the brink of disaster. It's time to eradicate the Washington-Wall Street mentality that pronounces that those in power can play by a different set of rules. We need legislation that criminalizes these types of actions."

"In this campaign, I won't have the most connections in Washington. I won't be the candidate of the lobbyists or the insiders. But I'm not running to be their Senator. I'm running to be yours."
