LAS CRUCES PROFESSIONAL FIRE FIGHTERS ASSOCIATION ENDORSES HECTOR BALDERAS FOR SENATE

For Immediate Release: September 8, 2011

LAS CRUCES - Citing his commitment to helping New Mexico's working families, the Las Cruces Professional Fire Fighters Association (Local 2362) today announced that it is endorsing Hector Balderas for the United States Senate.

In a letter announcing the endorsement, Local 2362 President Davie Salas stressed Balderas' understanding of "the needs and concerns of the working person unique to our state. He understands that it is not only the big things in Washington that need to be accomplished, but just as importantly, it is the small things that at times mean even more to mothers and fathers trying to provide a good life for their family. The ability to earn a fair wage with the security of good medical benefits is at the core of American values that we believe Hector supports whole-heartedly."

Salas also cited Balderas' record of bringing people together to get results for New Mexico's working families. "Hector is not a political insider and is not owned by the special interest groups or lobbyists in Washington," he wrote. "He is a simple person with the ability to bring people together to work out differences and get things done for the betterment of his state and his country."

Balderas welcomed the endorsement. "I've said it before and I'll say it again: there is no greater honor than receiving the support from hard working New Mexicans, especially those who put their lives on the line to protect our communities," Balderas said. "Washington, DC has neglected our workers on behalf of Wall Street. When I'm in the United States Senate I will fight to ensure our emergency workers have the funding and resources they need to keep us safe. We must restore real fiscal accountability-closing tax loopholes for corporations that ship jobs overseas and ending tax breaks for millionaire and billionaires-so that we can make these investments," Balderas concluded.

The Las Cruces Professional Fire Fighters Association is the second major firefighters union to endorse Balderas for Senate. Earlier this year, he was endorsed by the Santa Fe Firefighters Association, Local 2059. Balderas has also been endorsed by 45 current and former state and local elected officials from across New Mexico.

"In this campaign, I won't have the most connections in Washington. I won't be the candidate of the lobbyists or the insiders. But I'm not running to be their Senator. I'm running to be yours."
